Their use of a goat mascot is nearly a century older than this logo, when Navy was gifted its first live goat mascot (who would eventually start the live Bill the Goat tradition), and harkens back to the days livestock were brought aboard naval ships -- first as a fresh food option and as refuse-eaters who kept the ship clean, but eventually, as companion animals to some officers.
